Rivendell B&B

Hotel Description

Rivendell B&B Review – The Rivendell was built in 1924 and is totally unique and idyllic in the area. The architect who designed it was one of six students who studied directly under Charles Rennie Mackintosh at Glasgow school of art and his influence is obvious throughout. The house was of private residence of the Penman family who prospered locally as early exponents of the motor trade. The house was then purchased in 2002 by its current owner Bruce Harper and underwent a total renovation maintaining the original features throughout.

  1. No thanks!

No reception at 2 pm check in so we had to call a number to have someone check us in. We were eventually met by an annoyed man who sped up the drive way to let out an impatient and flustered woman who said nothing to us other than to fill in the pre order breakfast sheet and then scampered off with the unpleasant and unfriendly man, Bruce Harper. We eventually learned he was the owner. He said nothing to us. No ” thank you for your visit , allow me to show you to your room”. They left in a hurry to deal with another property he runs. We felt like an inconvenience rather than paying customers. Sad linen, poor quality spring mattress, filthy kettle and rug needs a clean. The windows in room are in dire need of repair and do not lock and while can be opened cannot be left open due to wood rot. Health and safety should be alerted. The bathroom toilet seat was filthy, a wooden scratched up seat neither of us would sit on and the last time I saw one like that was in a filthy outhouse. Mirror in bathroom had crack and was not mounted properly, thus a hazard. Breakfast was the only redeeming thing about the place and the cook was friendly and engaging. The gormless reception woman said absolutely nothing to us at departure and simply put her hand out for the key as we left. We were not asked if we slept well, we did not, and I must say in all my years of travelling have never been treated in such a strange, cold and hostile manner. We will not return. Perhaps fix the issues before milking & disappointing unsuspecting customers of money to finance your other property.
