Cockenzie House Review – Cockenzie House and Gardens is a charity set up to bring this hidden 17th Century gem into community ownership. With two self catering cottages we are open on a daily basis offering practical and elegant spaces for hire within easy access from Edinburgh – excellent exhibition and function space a traditional tea room studio space for artists and professional businesses and of course holiday accommodation. We are less than one minute s walk from the John Muir Way and the shores of the Firth of Forth less than 30 minutes drive from the centre of Edinburgh and within very easy access of East Lothian s fantastic range of golf courses. Bedrooms The Mercat features one double room the Blooming Room named after Cockenzie & Port Seton s award winning Ladies in Bloom group and one twin room commemorating the Cockenzie Power Station which was decommissioned in 2013 and became world famous in 2015 when the twin chimneys were demolished. Along the corridor guests can find our Seton Sands shower room and Boat Shore Bog. Living Accommodation Our Heritage Room allows guests access to the well equipped shabby chic kitchen and the comfortable sitting area with coloured television and entry out onto the private patio. This in turn leads out on to our listed gardens where guests can walk amongst the apple trees from which Bonnie Prince Charlie s Highlanders fed after the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745 or across the lawns where Sir Walter Scott and Turner would have discussed the illustrations of the Waverley Novels. A1 – main motorway – Road: Take the A198 exit from A1. Follow A198 and B6371 to W Harbour Rd in Cockenzie. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto A198. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto B6371. Go through the first roundabout. Turn left onto Edinburgh Rd/B1348. Take the 1st right onto W Harbour Rd. Follow the road round to the right Destination will be on the left through a large gateway into a cobbled courtyard. Park in the courtyard and phone 01875 819456 br/ br/ Edinburgh Waverley Station – Train: By Car: Head east from the Centre of Edinburgh on to the A1 in the direction of Berwick. At the Bankton junction go on to the A198 heading for Cockenzie & Port Seton. Look for the B6731 to Cockenzie. At the war memorial take a left at the T-junction and then immediately right on to West Harbour Road. The road veers to the right a large orange building will appear on the right hand side. Take the first exit on the left through a very old set of gate piers on to a cobbled courtyard br/ br/ Edinburgh Airport – Air: By Bus: Take the 100 bus to the centre of Edinburgh (Waverley Station) and then the 26 bus (from the side door of Jenner Department Store) to Cockenzie By Car: Follow the signs to the A1 in the direction of Berwick. Come off at the Bankton Junction heading towards Cockenzie br/ br/ Centre of Edinburgh (Side door of Jenners) – Bus: Take the Number 26 bus direction of Seton Sands DO NOT take 26 service heading for Tranent and alight at the second stop in Cockenzie opposite the War Memorial. Walk 20 yards to the Main Gate.
